08-29-16 - The City of Fulton has announced the examination for Police Officer which will be held on November 19, 2016.  The last filing date for the exam is October 14, 2016.  Applications and additional information are available at the Personnel/Civil Service Office, City of Fulton, Municipal Building, 141 S. Is there a residency requirement in order to take the exam?
Yes - candidates must be legal residents of Oswego County or one of the contiguous counties (Cayuga, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, Lewis or Jefferson) for at least one month immediately preceding the date of the written examination.

Is there a fee to take the exam?
Yes - A non-refundable fee of $25 is required for each separately numbered examination for which you apply. 
What are the minimum qualifications?
You must be a high school graduate or possess your GED at time of appointment. You must be a United States citizen and possess a valid New York driver license at time of appointment.
What are the age requirements?
Candidates must be at least 19 years of age on or before the date of the examination in order to take the exam. Eligibility for appointment as a police officer begins when the candidate reaches age 20. Candidates who reach their 35th birthday on or before the date of written examination are not qualified except as follows: Candidates may have a period or military duty or terminal leave, up to six years as defined in Section 243(10-a) of the Military Law, deducted from their age for purposes of determining whether they meet the age requirement.

What about fitness standards?
There are three elements measured in the qualifying physical fitness test - they are muscular endurance, absolute strength and cardiovascular capacity. Details are available with the formal examination announcement.  Copies of the physical fitness and medical standards are available upon request at the Personnel/Civil Service Office.

What is cross filing?
If you have applied for any other civil service examination to be given on the same test date for employment with New York State or any other local government jurisdiction excluding New York City, you can make arrangements to take all the examinations at one test site.  This allows you take the test once in one location and have the results be received by multiple agencies.
